Description: Beautifully constructed private conference center on the campus of Cobscook Community Learning Center in Trescott, Maine. The Lodge, built as a retreat and conference center, was constructed in 2013-14 as a community dream project using local labor and local materials. You will see Maine's beautiful woods reflected in the abundant use of timbers throughout the Lodge. The Lodge is two stories, with 14 rooms, plus a studio apartment for artists in residence. Each room has a private bath. The Lodge is located on campus, surrounded by woods, nestled next a beautiful pond full of frogs. A short hike will lead you to the water's edge of Whiting Bay.

Afternoon: Check into Heartwood Lodge from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Your registration packet will be available upon checkin,

Dinner: You will invited to join your guides for a finely catered dinner at the Heartwood Lodge dining room

Evening: After dinner, you will meet with your Maine guides for orientation and learn what you may expect for planned activities.

Day Two: Monday, September 29 - Campobello Island and FDR International Park
Note: Experience the rugged coastline of the Canadian Maritimes and Coastal Maine.

Breakfast: Enjoy a delicious healthy continental breakfast at the Lodge dining room

Morning: Depart Lubc via vans to Campobello Island, where you will hike the many varied trails around the scenic island. You will enjoy stunning coastal vistas of the rugged coastline overlooking Grand Manan,and hike through ancient bogs. Expect to explore local flora and fauna, have the opportunity for sightings of lots of waterfowl species.

Lunch: A healthy picnic lunch will be enjoyed at an approprieate location during the hike.

Afternoon: While on Campobello Island, we will visit Roosevelt Cottage International Park, the summer home of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt. We'll take time to tour the cottage, walk the gardens, view the historical exhibits; and time permitting, we'll hike Friar's head for overlooking views of Passamaquoddy Bay.

Dinner: We'll enjoy a super supper at Heartwood Lodge prepared by our own catering chef.

Evening: Free Evening, Enjoy a walk about town.

Day Three: Tuesday, September 30 - Scenic splendor at Boot Head and Hamilton Cove
Note: Explore the best of Maine's Bold Coast

Breakfast: Enjoy a healthy continental breakfast prepared at the Heartwood Lodge dining room

Morning: Depart from Lubec via vans for the Cutler vicinity where you will hike Boot Head with a mix of wooded and shoreline trails. There will be commanding views of the ocean and Canadian islands. Expect to see shore birds, eagles, osprey, and maybe some seals.

Lunch: Enjoy a healthy and hearty picnic lunch.

Afternoon: Continue down the coast and hike Hamilton Cove. You'll see much of the same as Boot Head with different views and additional chances for wildlilfe sightings You will learn and apply "leave-no-trace" practices.

Dinner: Enjoy an special pizza party with lots of surprises at the Heartwood Lodge.

Day Four: Wednesday, October 01 - Explore Eastport with a hike at Shackford Head St...
Explore Eastport with a hike at Shackford Head State Park and an invigorating sail aboard the Ada C. Lord in search of whales and an abundance of marine life

Note: Hiking and sailing along the waters of Passamaquoddy Bay surrounding Eastport's Moose Island

Breakfast: Enjoy a healthy continental style breakfast at the Heartwood dining room.

Morning: We'll head for Eastport's Moose Island, where we'll explore Shackford Head State Park. The Park is one of the smallest in the Maine park system and consists of about 90 acres. The hiking trail system loops around several secluded rocky, gravel coves and beaches and offers a stunning view of Cobscook Bay and the North Lubec penniusla. While in the Park, you will visit fossil beds. traverse several land bridges, and get a sense of the tremendous tidal action in the bay.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch on your own in the scenic waterfront city of Eastport.

Afternoon: Depart the Easport Breakwater for a schooner trip aboard the Ada C. Lore, a 92' beauty. The captain and crew will head out Head Harbor Passage for a visit with the abundant pelagic birds and marine mammals. You will surely see seals and porpoise and don't be surprised if we encounter a whale or two.

Dinner: Enjoy an intimate atmosphere and delicious food at a home-cooked New England chowder and soup supper, with conversing with several down east women. Share the discoveries of the day with your fellow hikers.

Evening: See the lobster fishing industry through the eyes of the wife of a lobsterman who will speak about her family's involvement in the trade over several generations.

Day Five: Thursday, October 02 - Experience the wonders of the Reversing Reversing...
Experience the wonders of the Reversing Reversing Falls and the spectacular scenic wonder of West Quoddy Light--the lighthouse, the museum and the trails.

Note: The easternmost lighthouse in the continental US and trails that are nothing less than breathtaking.

Breakfast: Enjoy a healthy continental breakfast prepared the chef at Heartland dining hall.

Morning: Depart for Pembroke via vans to the Reversing Falls Park. This 90-acre undeveloped peninsula has several trails, lots of birds and showcases the "Reversing Falls", a salt water cataract that forms alternately in two directions as the tide flows in and out. Fall foliage is generally at peak in early October, so prepare yourself for a splendid color backdrop.

Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch at West Quoddy Head.

Afternoon: After lunch we'll explore the trails and scenic wonders that are West Quoddy Head Park, the easternmost point of land in the continental U.S You will tour a museum at the Lighthouse and then hike the trail along the rugged coastline overlooking the Canadian islands of Grand Manan and Campobello Island. Expect spectacular views

Dinner: Enjoy a DownEast Lobster Feast.

Evening: Graduation festivities.

Day Six: Friday, October 03 - Leisurely breakfast, fond farewells
Note: Explore Cobscook Bay region

Breakfast: Enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by the chef at the Heartwood Lodge dining hall

Morning: Explore the historic seaside village of Lubec on your own, catching all of those nooks and crannies to which you were introduced, but never had the time to investigate.

Afternoon: Have a safe journey home.
