Check In and Campus Tour/Welcome Program/Music from Covered Bridge Country

Note: Campus tour is primarily a bus tour with a guide. There are opportunities to get off the bus at a couple of places on campus.

Afternoon: Arrive at Mary O. Goodwin Guest House for check-in 2:00-4:00 PM. With a guide, take a bus/walking tour of the campuses of the College and the Sisters of Providence.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Get acquainted session in Providence Center followed by "Music from Covered Bridge Country".

Day Two: Tuesday, May 13 - Understanding bridges and the people who love the...
Note: Morning and evening are classroom settings. Afternoon is an outdoor classroom if weather permits.

Breakfast: Coffee and Toast available in Guest House. Full hot breakfast served in O'Shaughnessy Dining room

Morning: Learn from a master bridge builder who specializes in the building and restoration of covered bridges. In a slide presentation, he will take you through a total restoration of one of the bridges Parke County thought it had lost. In addition, he will show how a Parke County community pulled together to re-build a cherished bridge lost due to arson.

Lunch: Lunch in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Afternoon: Broad Ax and other 19th Century Tools. At the site of a hand-hewn log cabin on campus, watch the builder of this cabin demonstrate timber processing as it was done before saw mills. Other tools of woodcraft will also be demonstrated.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Indiana Folklore and Music. Hear the many folk stories and legends that were born and remain in Indiana lore. Have a discussion and video of Indiana Limestone art and enjoy music from the hills of southern Indiana.

Day Three: Wednesday, May 14 - Covered Bridges in Indiana
Note: We will go by bus to several bridges. Opportunity to get off the bus at each site to view the bridges and the settings with the guide.

Breakfast: Coffee and toast available in the Guest House. Full hot breakfast served in O'Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Morning: With a Parke County tour guide and bridge expert, we'll travel by a bus to visit many of the 30 bridges in the county. At each of the bridge sites we visit, participants will have the opportunity to explore and examine the bridges, ask questions of the guide, take pictures, walk across and under the bridges, and enjoy the picturesque settings.

Lunch: Lunch at State Park or other historic site

Afternoon: After lunch we will board the bus to Bridgeton, IN, the site of one of the most beautiful bridge settings in Park County. Visit the old grist mill and roam the quaint old town.

Dinner: Dinner in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room.

Evening: Music from Indiana and Beyond-The trio of mandolin, Irish tin flute and guitar will share songs and tunes from both sides of the Atlantic. The trio features 2 time national champion mandolin player.

Day Four: Thursday, May 15 - White Violet Center for Eco-Justice.
Note: Combination of indoor and outdoor classroom. Walk garden paths and paved trails.

Breakfast: Toast and coffee available in the Guest House. Full hot breakfast served in O'Shaughnessy Dining room.

Morning: Visit the White Violet Center for Eco Justice on the St. Mary's campus. Learn about the mission of the Sisters of Providence to keep Earth. Visit their award winning alpacas, their fiber operation and their organic gardens.

Lunch: Farewell Lunch in the O' Shaughnessy Dining Room followed by independent departures. Thank you for coming to our program.
