Menus are contracted for the program and are designed to offer balanced, healthy meals for the participants. This program offers two choices for meals: standard and vegetarian. We are unable to customize menus for individuals. However, we have found that by requesting sauces and dressing to be served on the side, we are able to accommodate various food intolerances and allergies. Vegetarian meals must be requested in advance on your Participant Information Form. Unfortunately, there are no other special meal options. Participants with special dietary needs should be prepared to avoid certain foods or supplement the regular meal plan as needed.

Great moments in history are often marked by the crystallization of words, evocatively enunciated. In those great speeches you’ll find that powerful combination of content, tone and emotion but, most importantly, you’ll hear the speaker’s sincere belief in the value of what she/he is saying. Using actual sound recordings of the 20th century, this course will explore the history of one hundred years that changed the world like none before them — illustrated by the great speeches of those notable times.
Lunch: At the hotel enjoy a lunch buffet of salad, sandwich, dessert, coffee and hot tea.Afternoon: Art Tour: Paris/N. France
Paris has spectacular art from Notre Dame to the Louvre, and smaller gems like the Cluny Museum. The outskirts of Paris and highlights in Normandy, Loire Valley finish the course.Dinner: At the hotel enjoy a buffet which includes salad, entree, vegetable side, dessert, complimentary coffee and hot tea; other beverages available for purchase in the hotel bar.Evening: Thomas Jefferson and the Empire of Liberty
This course will examine the enigmatic character of our third president and the role he played in the early years of the Republic. We will first provide the background for Jefferson’s long public career by mapping the key intellectual and political contours of his era, and then explore five major themes that run through his life: his radical revolutionary ideology, his friendships with fellow Founders John Adams and James Madison, his lengthy feud with Alexander Hamilton, his often-contradictory stance on slavery, and finally his equally puzzling and ever-shifting theories on the proper republican approach to the administration of political power. We hope thereby to explicate the endlessly fascinating mind set of an energetic, creative, yet deeply flawed American genius. The course will rest largely on the work of five respected contemporary American scholars of the Revolutionary/Federalist Era: Gordon S. Wood, Joseph P. Ellis, Nancy Isenberg, Andrew Burstein, and Annette Gordon-Reed. But we will also take a retrospective look at an earlier generation of Jefferson admirers: biographers such as Merrill Peterson and Dumas Malone.

This course will focus on three Broadway musicals inspired by Shakespeare's plays. We will look at and listen to excerpts from Rodgers' and Hart's The Boys From Syracuse (The Comedy Of Errors), Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate (The Taming Of The Shrew), and the Bernstein/Sondheim/Laurents/Robbins West Side Story (Romeo and Juliet).Lodging: The Lodge at TiburonMeals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The era that invented the police force and perfected the detective story offers a non-stop history of murders, espionage, smuggling, and grave robbing. For the crime story fan, the truth really is better than fiction. Did the Victorians consider the same activities to be crimes as we do today? What did they think was fair punishment? Viewing their culture’s condemnation of actions we hardly notice will tell so much about them and even more about ourselves.Lunch: At the hotel enjoy a lunch buffet of salad, soup, bread, dessert, coffee and hot tea.Afternoon: Art Tour: Paris/N.
