Day One: Sunday, February 16 - Arrival/Welcome/Orientation
Afternoon: CHECK IN: From 3:00 pm at the Magnuson Hotel front desk. REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, you will be directed to the meeting room to register with the program staff and pick up your arrival packet containing the up-to-date schedule that we will review during orientation in the evening. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PROGRAM ACTIVITIES AND SCHEDULED TIMES COULD CHANGE DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding! ORIENTATION: 5:00 pm. Meet and greet everyone in an introductory get-acquainted session. We'll then review the updated schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures and answer any questions you may have. The rest of the evening is yours to continue making new friends, unpack, or relax by the pool.

Dinner: Hotel Dining Room.

Evening: Get to know the staff and other participants. Overview of program and facilities. The case for the week will be distributed. Read the case before Monday morning class.

Day Two: Monday, February 17 - Guidelines: A Case Map / 911 Emergency Communicat...
Guidelines: A Case Map / 911 Emergency Communications/The Role of the Police/The Myth of TV Policing

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: Begin the morning by reviewing the case and establishing rules of criminal law. Take a short refreshment break and then continue with the second lecture. With our retired Chief of Police officer, Rick Kistner, learn how the police respond to the scene and the steps they take to secure the area for the forensics team.

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room.

Afternoon: Learn how the 911 system works and what happens when our crime is reported. The Education Director at Pinellas County 911 Communications will be our speaker.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall. The buffet at the campus dining hall includes hot entrees, side dishes, salad bar, soup, deli meats, bread, fresh fruit, desserts and beverages. Self-service format with trays.

Evening: End your day with Rick as he delves into the Myth of TV Policing.

Day Three: Tuesday, February 18 - Field trip to local Crime Lab /The Role of the Me...
Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: Board our motor coach for a field trip to a local crime lab. Learn how highly trained and capable Crime Scene Technicians provide mobile crime lab services at major crime scenes by scene photography, processing for latent fingerprints and collecting, identifying, classifying and preserving evidence. See how Fingerprint Specialists examine and evaluate the latent prints developed and lifted at crime scenes. The Tampa Police photo lab is responsible for downloading compact discs to the department's mainframe and printing all Fire and Police Department crime scenes along with public relations photography. These technicians are very proficient in photography and photographic development techniques, both of which are crucial in the assignment they occupy. Finally, a sometimes neglected aspect of any organization or function is the record keeping and data management. Our Office Support Specialists play an essential role in successfully achieving ID's goals. These technicians work to quantify data about arrests made, maintain city personnel files and criminal files, verification of court ordered expunctions, and staff the service desk for photo requests. These tasks are but a few of the functions of their highly demanding job roles.

Afternoon: What is a Medical Examiner? Why is an investigation necessary? What happens during an investigation? Answers to these and other questions as a member of the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office leads us through this case.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall.

Evening: Spend the evening watching the movie classic "12 Angry Men"

Day Four: Wednesday, February 19 - Role of the Court Reporter / Role of the Jury/Fre...
Role of the Court Reporter / Role of the Jury/Free afternoon/ Role of the Judge

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: What does a court reporter do? Why is s/he there? When is it necessary to have a court reporter? What is that strange machine s/he uses? Learn from our trained court reporter. Take a short refreshment break. Spend the second part of the morning with retired Judge, Defense and Prosecuting Attorney, Joseph Donahey as he describes the role of the jury - preparing you for your part of this trial.

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room.

Afternoon: Take a break from the classroom to spend the afternoon exploring the downtown St. Petersburg area. Visit shops, museums and see the sights of our beautiful city.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall.

Evening: Judge Robert Beach will examine another side of the judicial system - the role of the judge.

Day Five: Thursday, February 20 - The Prosecutor's Game Plan/The Defense
Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: Spend the morning with a Pinellas County State Attorney as s/he leads you through the State Attorney Office's plan for prosecuting this case. Along the way, learn about the arraignment, charges, pleadings, discovery, evidence, jury selection, how the prosecutors work with the police and more.

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room.

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon with our defense attorney as s/he mounts the defense for the accused. Learn his/her game plan.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall.

Evening: Take a break from the program with an evening activity to be announced.

Day Six: Friday, February 21 - The Jury Deliberates
Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: This morning, you will be a part of the judicial system. The group will be divided into smaller juries and you will be sequestered for deliberation. Then, having chosen a fore-person for each group, the decision will be presented - guilty or not guilty.

Lunch: Center Dining Room. Program concludes with lunch today.
