Day One: Sunday, January 12 - Welcome and Orientation/Magnuson Hotel
Arrive To: CHECK IN: From 3:00 pm at the Magnuson Hotel front desk. REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, you will be directed to the meeting room to register with the program staff and pick up your arrival packet containing the up-to-date schedule that we will review during orientation in the evening. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PROGRAM ACTIVITIES AND SCHEDULED TIMES COULD CHANGE DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding! ORIENTATION: 5:00 pm. Meet and greet everyone in an introductory get-acquainted session. We'll then review the updated schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures and answer any questions you may have. The rest of the evening is yours to continue making new friends, unpack, or relax by the pool.

Day Two: Monday, January 13 - Lecture: Caesar & Coca /Lecture: Reiner & Brooks/...
Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: LECTURE: Our instructor Joy Katzen-Guthrie will start the first class with an introduction to Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, including their youthful work in vaudeville and the Borscht Belt and their transition to television during its formative era. There will be a short refreshment break mid-morning. Then, Joy will continue with an overview of comedy and variety television during TV's early years and aspects of live television that uniquely affect the work of Caesar and Coca.

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room

Afternoon: LECTURE: Be ready for a few laughs as our instructor, Rick Kistner, introduces you to the comic genius of Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. He'll start with the History and Science of Comedy, followed by Carl Reiner's career. Afterwards, you'll have time on your own to enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall. A selection of various entrees to choose from in a self-service format with trays.

Evening: Take a break from your classes and enjoy a lesson in T'ai Chi with Eckerd College Professor Hong Gu.

Lectures: Caesar & Coca /Lecture: Reiner & Brooks/Musical Entertainment

Morning: Joy will start this morning with an introduction to the cast and writers of Your Show of Shows through interviews and the finest samples of their creativity on television. There will be a short refreshment break in mid-morning, followed by samples of the skits, pantomimes, slapstick, and satire from Your Show of Shows and other Caesar programs through the 1950's.

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room

Afternoon: LECTURE: Rick Kistner continues with Carl Reiner's career and starts on the career of Mel Brooks. After class you will have time to relax and enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall. A selection of various entrees to choose from in a self-service format with trays.

Evening: ENTERTAINMENT: Joy will step away from the classroom to entertain you with her singing and piano playing.

Lecture: Caesar & Coca /Lecture: Kaye & Fine / Field Trip /Lecture: Reiner & Brooks

Morning: LECTURE: Joy will give her last lecture this morning with samples of the continuing work of Caesar & Coca in the coming decades, including television guest appearances and film. Take a short refreshment break in mid-morning. LECTURE: With instructor/entertainer Jason Fortner, you'll start classes with Danny & Sylvia: The Early Years. Danny Kaye was the actor/comedian of stage, screen, radio and TV. Sylvia was the architect of his most famous material. They worked together for over 40 years, creating a series of American Classics. Lectures and videos will be included in the classes.

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room

Afternoon: LECTURE: Rick will continue with the career of Mel Brooks. Afterwards, our motor coach will take you downtown to the St. Petersburg Museum of History. The St. Pete Museum of History has over 30,000 artifacts and archives in collections. The Museum welcomes everyone to view some of these artifacts and learn the history of the city, Florida and the U.S. from our interactive displays. Get up close to Aviation History! Our signature exhibit traces the story of commercial aviation from its inception in St. Petersburg on January 1, 1914. The World’s First Airline Gallery proudly features a full-size working replica of the Benoist Airboat, which propelled Tony Jannus into commercial aviation history.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall. A selection of various entrees to choose from in a self-service format with trays.

Evening: LECTURE: Rick's last class for the Reiner & Brooks course will explore Brooks and Reiner together.

Danny Kaye & Sylvia Fine Lecture/Time on Your Own in Downtown St. Petersburg/Movie Night

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: LECTURE:Jason will explore and present Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine as Broadway sensations. (Lecture & Videos) Time for a short refreshment break mid morning. LECTURE: As the course continues, Jason will explore their Hollywood Stardom. (Lecture & Videos)

Lunch: Hotel Dining Room

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon on your own. Transportation provided to the waterfront area in downtown St. Petersburg. Lots of things to do within walking distance or local trolley ride: Museums, shops, movies, galleries, etc.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall. A selection of various entrees to choose from in a self-service format with trays.

Evening: MOVIE NIGHT: Title to be announced.

Day Six: Friday, January 17 - Danny Kaye & Sylvia Fine Lectures
Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: LECTURE :With several videos and illustrations, Jason will take you through their years in concert and on television. (Lecture & Videos) There will be a short refreshment break in mid-morning. Jason will then wrap up the class with The Final Years.
