Day One: Sunday, November 10 - Arrival & Check-in, Registration & Orientation
Afternoon: CHECK-IN: From 3:00pm at Magnuson Hotel front desk. REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, you will be directed to the classroom to register with the program staff and pick up your arrival packet containing the up-to-date schedule we'll review during orientation in the evening. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding! ORIENTATION: 5:00pm. Meet and greet everyone in an introductory get-acquainted session. We'll then review the updated schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. The rest of the evening is yours to continue making new friends, to enjoy the amenities of the resort, or relax in your room. If you arrive after dinner, your packet will be at the hotel front desk, or our coordinator will give it to you first thing Monday morning.

Dinner: Your dinner will be served at 6:00 PM banquet style in a conference room near your classroom.

Evening: The evening is yours to continue getting to know your fellow participants, walk around the resort, or relax. Get ready for an enriching week exploring the great French culture through its art, architecture, music, literature, and cuisine. You can look forward to a live performance, a visit to our Fine Arts Museum, and a private wine-tasting followed by an authentic French meal.

Day Two: Monday, November 11 - Literature of the Enlightment and Romanticism, 19...
Literature of the Enlightment and Romanticism, 19th and 20th Century Literature, Science on the Seine, Debussy and Ravel, French Renaissance music plus Chorus Angelorum

Breakfast: Our hotel chef will prepare a delicious hot buffet breakfast.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Dedee Aleccia will explore the Age of Enlightenment, the French Revolution, and the reign of Napoleon. There will be a short mid morning refreshment break. PRESENTATION: We continue with a survey of the literature of Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, and Georges Sand.

Lunch: Our hotel chefs will prepare a delicious meal for you with table service.

Afternoon: After lunch, a short bus ride will take you to the Eckerd College campus. PRESENTATION: Expert lecturer Hal Hultman, a scientist will explore famous French scientists in a class entitled "Science along the Seine." There will be a 15 minute break. PRESENTATION: Susan Robinson, musician, conductor, teacher will introduce the music of French composers Debussy and Ravel. The beautiful artistry of the French chansson culminates in the 19th century orchestration of Debussy and Ravel. Each man was also a trailblazer in their use of instrumentation and harmony. We'll explore the vocal, piano, and orchestral music of each man. We'll also experience the 20th century rebuttal to their music by Les Six! - A group of six French composers led by the artist Jean Cocteau.

Dinner: Our Continuing Education Center chefs will prepare a delicious meal for you in our Dining Hall. The buffet includes hot entrees, side dishes, salad bar, soup, deli meats, bread, fresh fruit, desserts, and beverages. Self-service format with trays.

Evening: PRESENTATION: Enjoy an evening of sublime music. Noted A Capella group, Chorus Angelorum, enlightens and entertains with a selection of Renaissance and modern French music and other pieces from the group's repertoire.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Dedee Aleccia will explore the art of the Age of Enlightenment and Romanticism, There will be a short mid morning refreshment break. PRESENTATION: Expert lecturer Joe Menasce, a former resident of France, will provide an overview of the culture, character, and history of this most fascinating and picturesque country.

Lunch: Our hotel chefs will prepare a delicious meal for you with table service.

Afternoon: PRESENTATION: Joe Menasce continues his overview of French Culture, ending with an introduction to the famous châteaux of the winding Loire Valley. The bus will take you to Eckerd College. PRESENTATION: Susan Robinson will continue her presentation on Ravel, Debussy, and Les Six.

Dinner: Our Continuing Education Center chefs will prepare a delicious meal for you in our Dining Hall. The buffet includes hot entrees, side dishes, salad bar, soup, deli meats, bread, fresh fruit, desserts, and beverages. Self-service format with trays.

Evening: RECITAL: Susan Robinson and her young students will delight and entertain with an evening of French piano and instrumental music.

Morning: PRESENTATION: Dedee Aleccia will give an overview of France's magnificent medieval cathedrals. There will be a short mid-morning refreshment break. PRESENTATION: Hal Hultman will talk about the significance of French aviation.

Lunch: Our hotel chefs will prepare a delicious meal for you with table service.

Afternoon: FREE AFTERNOON: Take this opportunity to explore your personal interests. We'll provide transportation to the waterfront area in downtown St. Petersburg. You have many choices within walking distance or a local trolley ride: museums, shops, movies, galleries, and much more. A bus will return you to the hotel. PRESENTATION: Enjoy the enthusiasm and expertise of Eckerd College Professor Tom Oberhofer, a frequent traveler to France, who will share his knowledge of French food and wine with a sampling of those quintessential French tastes

Chateaux of the Loire, French Impressionism, Tour of French Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Catered French Dinner, Introduction to Travel French

Breakfast: Our hotel chef will prepare a delicious hot buffet breakfast.

Morning: PRESENTATION: David Mulligan will transport you to the beautiful Loire Valley with a description and history of its famous châteaux, rich with vineyards along the contours of these beautiful castles deep in the heart of one of France's most historic and beautiful regions. There will be a short mid-morning refreshment break. PRESENTATION: As former director of the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, our speaker knows the MFA and its collection intimately. He will take us on a preview of the Museum’s French art, from delicate medieval religious ivories to colossal 20th-century bronze sculpture, including wonderful Impressionist paintings by Monet, Renoir, and Cezanne, and place the artworks in the context of their period and the artist’s career. In October, the Museum opened its newly revamped galleries and Dr. Schloder will give us a behind-the-scenes look at the reinstallation, prior to our guided tour in the afternoon.

Lunch: Our hotel chefs will prepare a delicious meal for you with table service.

Afternoon: FIELD TRIP: Dr. Schloder will lead an exploration of the museum and in particular its French Impressionist masterpieces. FREE TIME. After a short time to enjoy a rest or the resort amenities and beautiful view, the bus will take you to Eckerd College for your evening activities.

Dinner: Enjoy a specially catered meal of French cuisine in a private setting complete with tablecloths and soft music.

Evening: PRESENTATION:. Now that you’ve enjoyed a fine French meal, learn how to order it in French. This interactive class with Dr. John Schloder will give you the basic “vocabulaire” and restaurant etiquette to enjoy a great dining experience the next time you’re in Paris. You’ll learn how to reserve the best table, to know what you’re ordering, and the difference between “service” and “pourboire”, which will leave your waiter smiling. After the presentation, the bus will return you to the hotel.

Day Six: Friday, November 15 - Parisian Monumental Icons, The Louvre, Program Co...
Breakfast: Our hotel chef will prepare a delicious hot buffet breakfast

Morning: Note: Check-out from the hotel is by 11:00 am. PRESENTATION: David Mulligan will take you to Paris to learn about the city's monumental icons. There will be a short mid-morning refreshment break. PRESENTATION: John Schloder will present The Louvre; From Royal Palace to the Worlds Greatest Museum. Everyone’s heard of the Louvre and its amazing works of art, but fewer know how it came into being. This lecture will trace its evolution from a 12-century defensive castle outside the city walls, to a Renaissance royal palace, to one of the world’s most famous museums, opening to the public at the French Revolution. Our speaker knows the Louvre well, having worked over a decade in its Paintings Department.
