Description: Situated on one of Lowell’s many canals, the Inn and Conference Center was a former commercial hotel property acquired by the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. It is a full service hotel. The Inn is completely separate from UMASS facilities and operates as hotel 365 days of the year. In addition, during the summer months, a separate wing of the building is occupied by UMASS students during the academic year, and is completely refurbished and converted to hotel rooms.

Day Six: Tuesday, June 18 - Settlement in the Berkshires
Breakfast: At the hotel

Morning: Gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between Mohicans and the English Missionaries of colonial America through a guided tour at Mission House. Walk to the Indian Burial Ground, then board a motorcoach for a field trip through the Berkshire's historic towns, to Ashley House, the oldest house still standing in the Berkshires and the former center of political, economic, social life.

Lunch: On top of Bartholomew's Cobble nature reserve, enjoy the natural beauty and rock formations that influences local artists and writers.

Afternoon: Take part in a discussion in the interpretive center at Ashley House. Return to Stockbridge, with a stop at the Naumkeag estate and gardens

Dinner: Gourmet dinner at the Red Lion Inn

Afternoon: At the Norman Rockwell Museum, step behind the scenes with curators to discover the art and creative process of this influential visual communicator of the American 20th century. Explore the original paintings and enjoy a private look at Rockwell’s personal archive ? from carefully directed photographic references to rarely-seen props, art supplies, and correspondence ? which will offer fresh insights into the world of this renowned artist. This interactive program will explore the deep links between imagery, culture, and history, inspiring consideration of the unique power of the artist as a commentator in his or her time. Later, tour Edith Wharton's home, "The Mount."
