Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Day Two: Tuesday, April 16
- Boca Raton – The City an Architect Dreamed
Breakfast:
Breakfast is included at the hotel.
Morning:
LECTURE: Architecture in Palm Beach County
Lunch:
Lunch in a local restaurant.
Afternoon:
FIELD TRIP: Boca Raton Addison Mizner dreamed of a Mediterranean-themed resort town and in the year of its incorporation 1925, he launched Boca Raton on its path to the prosperous and stylishly inspired city that it is today. Allow us to transport you back to the earliest days of Boca Raton’s settlement by recounting the tales of Thomas Rickard’s pioneer homestead and the colorful story of the Yamato Colony, a Japanese pineapple commune under the leadership of Joseph Sakai.
Taking to the road, we will visit the beautiful historic residential neighborhood of Old Floresta, the 1927 Old Town Hall, now home to the Boca Raton Historical Society, the 1930 Train Station, and the historic African-American neighborhood of Pearl City.
Celebrating the present day achievements of Boca Raton, we will pass through Mizner Park and see how a worn-out shopping mall with an ocean-sized parking lot became the catalyst for a downtown renaissance. Our final stop will bring us to an exploration of the community-celebrated Boca Raton Museum of Art. After you have completed this tour, we would like your opinion on whether Addison Mizner would have liked where his dreams have led.
Dinner:
Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and after dinner you are free to rest or explore more of the area on your own.

- Influences and the Art Scene
Breakfast:
Breakfast at the hotel.
Morning:
FIELD TRIP: The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens
The memory of the small Yamato Colony, a Japanese farming community that was established in 1905 in Palm Beach County lives on with the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. It is named after the last settler of the colony, who graciously donated the land to Palm Beach County to repay a debt that he felt he owed to his adopted country. Today this museum and gardens are the center of Japanese arts and culture in South Florida. We will explore its six unique gardens inspired by a different period and style of Japanese gardening. The museum retraces the history of the Yamato Colony, offers a Bonsai display and has other world class exhibits.
Lunch:
Lunch in a local restaurant
Afternoon:
FIELD TRIP: Delray’s Atlantic Ave - Gallery Walk
The re-awakened main street of “All-America” city Delray Beach is bustling Atlantic Avenue. The renaissance of this classic Florida beach town has generated a lively vernacular art scene that is best seen on foot under the canopy of subtropical vegetation and in the shadow of historic buildings that spill sidewalk cafes and comfortable street benches from their entryways. As you stroll through the water-inspired gallery of Joe Davis, formerly known as the ‘Artist of Times Square,’ your introduction to local artistry will begin in earnest. You will have a well-balanced experience of both contemporary and traditional pieces in many diverse mediums.
