Relax from your busy life in our peaceful lodge nestled amongst giant old growth trees. Meet new friends and learn about the week ahead.

Arrive To: 4:30-5:30 pm check-in.

Afternoon: 5:30 PM Group socializing activities - Meet your fellow Road Scholars.

Dinner: 6:15 pm dinner at Twin Rocks dining room.

Evening: Program orientation and preparation for the week ahead until 9:00 PM.

Note: The beach at Twin Rocks is soft to hard packed sand. The trails around the lodge vary from packed gravel to dirt with some muddy patches and exposed tree roots.

Breakfast: Breakfast at 7:30 am. Lunch materials are laid out for assembly of lunch.

Morning: Hike the beach with views of Twin Rocks. ~2 miles, 0 no elevation gain.

Lunch: Sack lunch on the trail.

Afternoon: Hike the trails around the lodge through Old growth Sitka Spruce and Cedar forest. ~3 miles, 800 ft. elevation gain.

Dinner: 6:15 pm dinner at Twin Rocks dining room.

Evening: Evening presentation on local environmental issues or history. Presentation and discussion will end by 9:00 pm.

Day Three: Tuesday, October 01 - Hike along the hard packed sandy beach beneath dr...
Hike along the hard packed sandy beach beneath dramatic cliffs. Enjoy views looking along the rugged Oregon coastline. Visit the quaint town of Cannon Beach.

Note: The Hug point hike is on a hard packed sandy beach. You can shorten this hike by riding in the van that parallels the beach whenever you get tired. Optional Ecola to Indian Beach hike, 1.5 miles 400 ft. elevation gain, on path along side of mountain with some muddy spots. Optional add on to Tillamook Head, 3.9 mile RT with 900 ft. elevation gain, on nice trail with a few muddy spots and along fire road.

Breakfast: 7:30 am breakfast in Twin Rocks dining room. Lunch materials laid out for assembly of lunch.

Morning: Walk the beach along dramatic cliffs and Haystack rocks and listen to the crashing waves.

Lunch: Sack lunch on the trail.

Afternoon: Hike Ecola State Park with beautiful vistas along the coast and follow a portion of the Lewis and Clark trail. Visit some of Cannon Beach's art galleries and other quaint shops.

Dinner: 6:15 pm dinner at Twin Rocks dining room

Evening: Evening presentation on local environmental issues or history. Program will end by 9:00 pm.

Day Four: Wednesday, October 02 - Hike past the Peter Iredale shipwreck on our way ...
Hike past the Peter Iredale shipwreck on our way to Fort Stevens, the only continental U.S. fort bombed by the Japanese. Visit historic fort Clatsop, the home of Lewis and Clark during the winter of 1805-'06. Enjoy dinner in the town of Seaside.

Note: Hike from Peter Iredale shipwreck to Fort Stevens museum on hard packed sand and paved paths. Fort Clatsop hike on board walk from Netul landing to visitor center.

Breakfast: 7:30 am breakfast in Twin Rocks dining room. Lunch materials laid out for assembly of lunch.

Morning: Hike at Fort Stevens along the beaches and through the forests to the World War II fortifications. See the remains of the Peter Iredale, a 1906 shipwreck. 3.8 miles one way with shuttle; minimal elev. gain.

Lunch: Sack lunch on the trail.

Afternoon: Visit Fort Clatsop, the 1805/06 winter encampment of Lewis and Clark. 1.5 miles with minimal elevation gain.

Dinner: Dinner on your own at local eatery in charming coastal trown of Seaside.

Evening: No evening program as we drive back from Seaside to the lodge.

Day Five: Thursday, October 03 - Hike out to the point of Cape Lookout, jutting se...
Hike out to the point of Cape Lookout, jutting several miles into the Pacific ocean for outstanding views of the coastline. Visit Cape Meares lighthouse and the Octopus tree. Enjoy ice cream at the Tillamook cheese factory.

Note: Cape Lookout trail is a nice path with a few muddy spots and some exposed tree roots.

Breakfast: 7:30 am breakfast in Twin Rocks dining room. Lunch materials laid out for assembly of lunches.

Morning: Start hiking Cape Lookout trail beneath massive Sitka Spruce laden with moss and huge primeval ferns. Dramatic viewpoints await at every corner. 5.2 miles, 400 ft. elevation gain.

Lunch: Sack lunch on the trail.

Afternoon: Visit Cape Meares' 1890's era lighthouse and the Octopus tree. The surrounding rocks and stacks are a significant seabird nesting area that attracts eagles and falcons. 1.2 miles, 100 ft. elevation gain.

Dinner: 6:15 PM dinner at Twin Rocks Dining Room.

Evening: Share stories, photos and experiences from the week during a closing program that ends by 9:00 pm.

Day Six: Friday, October 04 - Memories of beautiful scenery and new friends.
Note: No activity scheduled as people pack up for their departure after breakfast.
