Equipment Requirements
The East Valley Lodge can provide a fly rod and reel if you need one. Each guest is responsible for bringing their own waders and comfortable shoes. Bug spray and hats are recommended. Guests should bring a variety of clothing items as the temperatures and humidity can vary widely during this time of the year. Rain gear is also recommended.

Description: Located in the pristine forests at the base of Slide Mountain, the Frost Valley YMCA features nearly 7,000 acres of meadows, ponds, cascading waterfalls, and world-renowned trout streams, creating an idyllic background. East Valley Ranch at Frost Valley is a lovely renovated home situated in a beautiful field just a few feet from the East Branch of the Neversink River. The deck, right off the dining room, looks directly over the Neversink River.

Day One: Sunday, June 02 - Check-in/Orientation
Afternoon: Checkin begins at 4:00 PM in the East Valley Lodge dining room.

Dinner: Conclude the day's travel with a warm welcome to the East Valley Lodge and a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of three stone fireplaces, or on our streamside deck overlooking the Neversink River.

Evening: Introductions and an orientation to the East Valley Lodge and Road Scholar program in our cozy and comfortable living room.

Day Two: Monday, June 03 - Fly-tying Demo and casting instruction at the Eas...
Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in East Valley Lodge dining room. Typical morning meals consist of assorted fresh fruit, local farm raised eggs, oatmeal and cold cereals. Daily specials may include blueberry pancakes, waffles and oven omelets.

Morning: Full day of professional instruction will include the history of fly fishing, a review of necessary equipment, knots and then LOTS of casting instruction - roll, basic, and false casting. Individualized instruction, video and review.

Lunch: Lunch at East Valley Lodge. Lunch will consist of healthy wellness cuisine prepared to replenish your active and creative body's needs. Homemade soups, complete salad bar and light deserts are provided daily.

Afternoon: Professional fly fishing instruction continued.

Dinner: Conclude the day's teaching with a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Dinners may include salmon steaks, tofu milano, or other tasteful choices. Side dishes may consist of garlic mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, tortellini, or sautéed fresh vegetables. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.

Evening: Evening fly tying demonstration and instruction: Gain first-hand insight into the art of tying your own trout flies. Our instructors will show participants basic skills and materials needed in tying artificial flies for fly-fishing. See how the pros do it, then try your hand at creating your own classic fly patterns such as the "Muddler Minnow", the "Stimulator" and the "Woolly Bugger".

Day Three: Tuesday, June 04 - Further casting instruction
Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in East Valley Lodge dining room.

Morning: This morning will include professional instruction, during which we will review all aspects of casting, and add shooting line and the art of the double haul.

Lunch: Lunch at the East Valley Lodge. Homemade soups, complete salad bar and light deserts are provided daily.

Afternoon: This afternoon we continue our professional instruction on wading and fishing techniques, streamside entomology, and fly-fishing etiquette. Anglers will also learn proper fish handling procedures and how to 'play' a trout on our private access to the Neversink River.

Dinner: Conclude the classes with a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.

Evening: Optional evening program outlining Sullivan County, NY local history. Our local rivers have provided earlier generations with much more than native trout! See how the revered trout streams of the Catskill Mountains helped to shape the growth and popularity of the Catskill Region. Logging, mills, and tourism all played a part in the preservation of the rivers and forests we treasure today.

Day Four: Wednesday, June 05 - Fly fishing in some of the country's most famous ...
Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in East Valley Lodge dining room.

Morning: Utilize your newly-honed skills while spending the day fishing the fabled Esopus, Willowemoc or Beaverkill Rivers for brook, brown and rainbow trout.

Lunch: Lunch will be taken on the banks of an esteemed Catskill trout stream. Enjoy your lunch al fresco, among newfound friends and the natural beauty of the Catskills.

Afternoon: This afternoon we will continue plying the Esopus, Willowemoc or Beaverkill Rivers.

Dinner: Conclude the day's fishing with a meal at the East Valley Lodge and a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.

Evening: Our evening session will be spent fishing from shore, or wading into a local river. The Neversink provides excellent fly-fishing opportunities for diverse species including trout (brook, brown, and rainbows), smallmouth bass, walleye, and yellow perch.

Day Five: Thursday, June 06 - Fishing in the cradle of American fly-fishing.
Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in East Valley Lodge dining room.

Morning: Weather and river conditions permitting, we will drive to another river this morning, to continue developing our skills and newly learnt techniques. Our plan is to spend the day fishing the fabled Willowemoc or Beaverkill Rivers for brook, brown and rainbow trout.

Lunch: Guests will be provided with a diverse variety of food selections to assemble their own picnic lunch. Enjoy your lunch al fresco, among newfound friends and the natural beauty of the Catskills.

Afternoon: Anglers will continue exploring the waters of the Beaverkill or Willowemoc Rivers with knowledgeable guides, while further developing their skills through hands-on practice on the water. Visit and explore "Trout Town U.S.A" (Roscoe, NY) and fish the famed "Junction Pool" and other legendary spots for brook trout, brown trout and rainbows.

Dinner: Conclude the day's fishing by returning to the East Valley Lodge and a delicious selection of wholesome entrees. Enjoy coffee, homemade desserts and conversation around one of our three fireplaces.

Evening: The evening session will be spent fishing in the local waterways on property owned by Frost Valley. Alternatively, there will be fly tying classes hosted indoors.

Day Six: Friday, June 07 - Fishing in the beautiful Neversink River
Breakfast: Fireside breakfast served in East Valley Lodge dining room.

Morning: It's the last chance to catch the big one! We will spend our final morning plying our own private waters encompassing the East and West Branches of the famed Neversink River which flows beside the East Valley Lodge back deck. We may also have a chance to fish our private impoundment, White Pond, for trout, bass, perch, walleye and panfish.

Lunch: Return to the East Valley Lodge for final lunch together around noon. To give guests maximum flexiblity in their travel plans, todays' lunch will be made after breakfast.
