Learn why he was never accepted into Paris's foremost school of art. Discuss how he was the American artist most associated with the Art Noveaux and Aesthetic Movements. PRESENTATION: Increase your knowledge of Dale Chihuly's beginnings from the Universities of Washington, Wisconsin, and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). In 1968, after receiving a Fulbright Fellowship, he went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice. FIELD TRIP: Explore the Chihuly Collection to enhance your classroom lecture with a stunning collection of world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly's artwork. Chihuly's spectacular large-scale installations such as Ruby Red Icicle Chandelier created specifically for the Collection along with several popular series works including Macchia, Ikebana, Niijima Floats, Persians and Tumbleweeds which have thrilled audiences around the globe. Each space has been designed individually to complement each installation producing unique visual experiences. Opportunity to watch an educational video presentation in an intimate theater.Lunch: Lunch in a local restaurant.Afternoon: FIELD TRIP: After lunch explore a glass studio and hot shop for a unique opportunity to get behind the scenes and observe resident glass artists creating unique works of art. See one of the glass demonstrations as the artist takes the audience through the process of creating a one of a kind piece of art glass. From gathering the molten glass from the furnace, to working it on the pontil pipe and glory hole, to its final cool down process in the annealing kiln, students will have a new appreciation for this art form that is centuries old. View the gaffer blowing glass, while the assistant narrates in detail the science behind glass, the artistic vision guiding the process and all of the steps involved as the work is being produced. Wrap up of week and pick up souvenir photos.Lunch: A box lunch is offered on Fridays to allow students who need to catch an early flight to take their lunch with them.
