Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Morning:
9:30-11:30: San Francisco History & Neighborhoods: Americans have two hometowns: their own & San Francisco. Enjoy an engaging look at the City by the Bay starting with its founding in 1776 through the Gold Rush, 1906 earthquake and 1967 Summer of Love as well as discover its charming neighborhoods.
Lunch:

Afternoon:
2:30-4:30: Five Artists Who Altered the Path of Western History: Art changes: it has a history. We have a tendency to explain these changes as a reflection of the time, the place, the culture in which the art was produced. While this is true, it does not account for individual genius. Our study will begin with Giotto who, as a contemporary stated, translated art from Greek into Latin meaning that he rejected Byzantine art. We shall study the discovery of linear perspective by Brunelleschi, the realism of the 17thc Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer and his great influence on 19th c art. Diego Velazquez, a 17thc Spaniard much revered by Manet, Sargent and others will be followed by an examination of Pablo Picasso, the protean genius of the 20th C.

Dinner in the hotel dining area.
