Road Scholar
Program #11009RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Elevation Note
Santa Fe is at 7,000'. If you have breathing difficulties, check with physician before coming here.

Day Four: Sunday, December 30 - Day Trip to Taos/Ranchos de Taos Church/Ernest Bl...
Day Trip to Taos/Ranchos de Taos Church/Ernest Blumenschein Home/Taos Pueblo/Millicent Rogers Museum

Note: Walking up to one mile over packed dirt terrain. Standing up to one hour at museums and at Taos Pueblo

Breakfast: Breakfast in the hotel dining room from 8:00 until 9:00 AM

Morning: Bus departs at 8:00 AM for a trip to Taos, with a stop at St. Francis de Asis church. Completed in 1815, the church provides one of the best examples of Franciscan Old World architectural ideals combined with New World building techniques. Light plays off the adobe walls, and it's one of the most photographed buildings in New Mexico.

You'll continue on for a visit to the Ernest Blumenschein Home. The home is maintained much as it was when the artist and his family were alive. It's filled with a superb collection of the family's art, a representative sampling of works by other famous Taos artists, antiques, and the family's lifetime of personal possessions.

There will be some free time on Taos Plaza following the visit.

Lunch: Lunch at Antonio's: A Taste of Mexico

Afternoon: After lunch, we'll visit Taos Pueblo (if the Pueblo is open. The Pueblo closes at certain times during the year, and no one is exactly sure when that will be except the tribal elders -- and they don't consult with us in advance! -- and for funerals and special ceremonial events. If it's open, we'll definitely take you there.) You'll have a Native American guide to show you around.

Continue on to the Millicent Rogers Museum. The Museum presents a remarkable collection of Native American jewelry, pottery, rugs, baskets, and art, beautifully displayed.

The bus will then take you to view the Rio Grande Gorge, a deep canyon formed by the Rio Grande as it flowed, over the centuries, through the area. The rock striations are lovely, and somewhat reminiscent of the Grand Canyon.

Bus departs for Santa Fe at about 4:15 PM, returning there by 6:00 PM.

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel from 6:30-7:30 PM

Evening: Free evening after dinner

At 4:15 PM, bus departs the hotel to travel to downtown Santa Fe. You'll be attending a concert at the beautiful Lensic Performing Arts Center, provided by the Santa Fe Concert Association.
