Road Scholar is looking for educated group travel program tour guides who are well-acquainted with Albuquerque, New Mexico and surrounding area to include Santa Fe, Taos, Native American pueblos, etc. to act as group leaders for this non-profit educational travel organization. Our participants are usually over the age of 50 and may be as old as 90+. Our group leaders attend all program activities designed by our office for each particular program (including evenings and weekend work as needed) and offer the highest level of service to our programs participants. We may have as many as 42 people in a program; the program may last 5-7 days. Programs involve classes, field trips to many areas of interest on motor coaches, working with instructors and tour guides, evening activities, meals in restaurants and hotels and much more. The position is part-time and intermittent. You might work four or five programs a year or possibly more, depending on your schedule and skills. We cover all expenses incurred during the time you work with our programs, including admission fees to museums, concerts or operas and all meals that would be eaten with the group.
We pay minimum wage for hours worked (currently $8.50 per hour in Albuquerque). Usually, during a six-night program, a group leader could earn between $700 - $1,200 depending on hours worked - and we do pay overtime at time-and-a-half, based on a work week of Sunday through Saturday. Some of our programs last only four days/three nights, but many are seven days/six nights. This is a great job for an agile and active educator who is conscientious and dependable, loves to be with people, travel a bit and have availability. Paid training in Santa Fe is required.
A Bachelor's Degree is required; group travel or tour guide experience is highly preferred and teaching experience is a plus. This position requires an energetic, active, can-do person. The successful candidate will be a polished, mature communicator, interested in current events, history and world affairs, extremely patient and sensitive to others' needs, have a professional demeanor, have a good work history and good references and must be able to pass a rigorous background check.
Please email your professional resume and cover letter to
