Roles & Responsibilities

Ambassador Roles and Responsibilities
Volunteer Ambassadors are an integral part of Road Scholar's community outreach effort and act as the face of Road Scholar in many communities. To that end, the primary role of a volunteer Ambassador is to proactively communicate a positive image of Road Scholar, with a focus on reaching out to older adults to introduce them to the joys of educational travel and lifelong learning.

Basic Responsibilities
•   A minimum commitment of one year is preferred
•   Conduct at least one presentation each quarter (four presentations during a 12-month period)
•   Collect names of newcomers to Road Scholar at presentations to be added to the mailing list
•   Seek out and schedule Ambassador speaking opportunities with community organizations and local media to
positively present Road Scholar's public image
•   Strategically place, monitor and update Road Scholar informational materials in public locations with high traffic (i.e.,
libraries, community centers, retirement communities)
•   Dial into at least one training webinar each quarter

Additional Opportunities
Participate in local conferences, tradeshows or expositions as a Road Scholar spokesperson

Ambassador Benefits
Road Scholar Ambassadors tell us that they volunteer primarily to share their love of our unique brand of educational travel with other like-minded individuals. While we appreciate that most volunteers do it because they support our mission, we still believe it's important to make the process as effortless for our volunteers as possible.
Mileage reimbursement: Road Scholar will reimburse mileage to and from a presentation at 56 cents per mile

Program Credits: For every 100 names an ambassador adds to the Road Scholar mailing list, he/she will receive a $500 credit toward a Road Scholar program of their choice.
Additional rules apply:
1) The program credit applies to any North America, International or Adventures Afloat program
2) The Ambassador must use the credit within 24 months of receipt
3) The credit can only be applied to one program and is not transferrable
4) The credit does not apply to airfare or incidentals, (i.e., single-room supplements)
