As the world leader in lifelong learning, Road Scholar is pleased to honor the memory of Dr.
Asa Grant Hilliard III, who as a lifelong learner and a strong proponent of learning and travel lived the values we espouse.
Eligibility
Applicants must be educators with at least 10 years teaching experience
one or more of the following criteria:
member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, or
member of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, or
on faculty at a Historically Black College and University, or
professor of African American studies, or
a supporter of lifelong learning.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of prominent leaders in the field of lifelong learning, including a member of the Hilliard family, as well as a representative from NABSE.
The winner will receive a $5,000 voucher toward a Road Scholar program of their choice.
This award will be presented at the November 2010 meeting
of the National Alliance of Black School Educators– the largest
national association of African American teachers and educators.

Robert C. Hayden, president of the Martha’s Vineyard branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), was the winner of the 2009 Asa Grant Hilliard III Road Scholar Award for Lifelong Learning .
