Homeland Security Strategy: Terrorism and Technology
“Preparedness and Response”
Within a few miles of Hilton Head Island lie military and air bases,
world class ports, nuclear facilities and a thriving tourist industry…all
of which would make attractive targets for a terrorist attack. It is
time we learn more about counter measures and/or levels of preparedness
for the safety of citizens and the infrastructure in the Lowcountry.
All sessions will be held from 10 to 12 on Saturdays at the Quality
Inn.
April 7, 2007 – Lee Beckman – “Securing the
Port of Savannah”
Legislative Manager of the Port of Savannah, Mr. Beckman will present
a power point program on the Port’s importance as an import destination
for Asian shipping, and the security measures in place for its protection.
April 21, 2007 – Jarret Brachman, Ph.D. – “Combating
Terrorism: Al-Qaeda Online”
Dr. Brachman is Director of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point.
He will take the audience on an interactive tour through the dark world
of Al-Qaeda. Participants will assume the role of analysts, exploring
the Al-Qaeda online Library, propaganda videos, and recruiting websites.
April 28, 2007 – Nawar Shora, JD. – “Understanding,
Plus Communication Equals Trust”
Mr. Shora is CEO and Founder of Shora Arab Muslim Sikh, Training and
Development. His company conducts multi-faceted cultural awareness seminars
for government and industry. An estimated 8,000 people have gone through
its interactive training programs in the last five years.
May 5, 2007 – William E. Hoehn, Ph.D. – “Nuclear
Proliferation: Preparedness and Response”
Dr. Hoehn, visiting professor at the Sam Nunn School of International
Affairs at Georgia Tech, will discuss sources of nuclear threats as
well as preparedness issues for citizens, governments and industry in
the event of a terrorist attack.
