20th ANNIVERSARY CONGRATULATIONS
This month the Modesto Institute for Continued Learning (MICL) at Modesto
Junior College will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a gala mid-afternoon
event at the new Mary Stuart Rogers Student Center on the college's west
campus. MICL is one of the first community college-chartered two-year
institutes on the west coast. A history of MICL's early years has been
written by MICL pioneer Marian Pettygrove, and will be distributed to
members and guests. MICL is looking forward in the next couple of years
to moving from its quarters in a converted campus warehouse to space in
the campus' new classroom buildings. Congratulations MICL.
ORLANDO AREA LLI’S MAKE THE NEWS
The December 27, 2005 issue of the Orlando Sentinel featured
an article on their front page entitled Seniors Become Students Again,
by Terry O. Roen. The article talked about the increasing interest in
developing new programs at retirement communities for the residents. The
writer mentioned LLI programs at the University of Central Florida, Seminole
Community College and Brevard Community College. She also spoke at length
with EIN and included information about the Network in the article.
THE GIFT OF GIVING
Well done to all the members of the Chemeketa Center for Learning in Retirement
who responded on very short notice that toys for hospitalized children
in Iraq were needed. Before they knew it, there were bags filled with
stuffed toys, cars and coloring books and crayons. All were sent over
to be distributed to the children.
