Meet Road Scholar participants
Floyd and Karla Nye
Last year, Floyd and Karla Nye of Utah explored Ireland from Galway's dramatic coastline to Dublin's rich cultural legacy on their first Road Scholar program. Recently retired, they love learning, travel and the newfound opportunity to do "whatever they like," as Karla puts it. We asked them to tell us about their thoughts on Road Scholar and more.
Q: Why do you choose to learn with Road Scholar?
A:
Our friends went on Road Scholar programs and recommended them to us. Now when the topic of travel comes up with other friends, we always passed the recommendation along!
Q: What was your first Road Scholar program?
Q: We offer 6,500 learning adventures in all 50 states and 150 countries around the world. If you could pick just one of those programs, what would it be? Why that one?
A:
We’ve been to France before and now we’ve decided we want to experience this beautiful country by riverboat. So this fall we're going on our second Road Scholar program, a voyage called
France Along the Rhone: Provence to Paris. After that, where we want to go depends on the day and our mood. Maybe Southeast Asia next year.
Q: Describe your favorite memory from a Road Scholar program.
A:
On The Best of Ireland, our group leader Stephen Delaney was great — he was full of wit and wisdom that he shared with us. Road Scholar presented us with a wonderful array of opportunities and handled everything for us.
Q: What's the most interesting thing you've learned on a Road Scholar program?
A:
We like to do our homework before we go somewhere and read up on that country's culture and literature. So learning more about William Butler Yeats from an Irish expert was really memorable.
