The Spirit of Road Scholar

Meet Road Scholar participant Lou Rawden

Q: Why do you choose to learn with Road Scholar?
A: Road Scholar programs provide a great opportunity not just to visit an area, but also to learn about it in depth.

Q: We offer 5,500 learning adventures in all 50 states and 150 countries around the world. If you could pick just one of those programs, what would it be?
A: I would pick a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up. The Grand Canyon is beautiful and rich in Native American history - nature and American history are two of my passions.

Q: Describe your favorite memory from a Road Scholar program.
A: I really enjoyed the knowledge displayed by the leader of our visit to Jack London State Park. I learned a lot about Jack London and was so impressed I went out and read his book about his attempt to sail around the world on his boat, the Snark.

Q: Outside of Road Scholar programs, how do you like to challenge your mind?
A: In my spare time I enjoy woodworking and improvising on my projects. This comes in handy because I hate to read directions and often need to improvise my mistakes away.
